Break Point Energy

I founded Break Point Energy because I recognize that tremendous clean energy tax credit investment will be required in the coming years for the United States to meet its climate change goals. Ironically, a key challenge is that most investor candidates lack the bandwidth and in-house expertise to participate. To that end, I have designed a structure that leverages my specialized tax credit investment skillset for the benefit of corporations interested in reducing their federal tax payments through clean energy tax credit acquisitions. 

People who know me describe me as sharp, tenacious, empathetic, and detail oriented. I am a proud Texan and based in my hometown of Houston, TX where I reside with my wife Kelly, our two young children, and our goldendoodle Bowie (named after David Bowie).

Bank of America

Before launching Break Point Energy, I worked as a credit officer on Bank of America's tax equity underwriting team in New York City. Tax equity is a niche and complex investment product and the very framework on which tax credit transferability was later derived as a simpler, faster alternative. In tax equity transactions, investors (historically banks) make equity investments in clean energy projects and earn an economic return from tax credits, depreciation, and some cash from project operations. At Bank of America, I negotiated transaction documents with project developers, conducted due diligence, and gained credit committee approval for a host of tax equity investments in wind, solar, and battery deals involving hundreds of millions of dollars. 

GE Capital

Before Bank of America, I worked out of business school at GE Capital (now GE Vernova) in Stamford, CT as an associate and then assistant vice president on the tax equity underwriting team. At GE Capital, I executed wind tax equity deals and trained junior teammates on building tax equity financial models and understanding typical power offtake agreement structures (including power purchase agreements, contracts for differences, and hedge agreements).

Spectra Energy

Before business school, I worked as an engineering and construction project manager for the natural gas pipeline company Spectra Energy (later acquired by Enbridge Energy), where my team developed the company's first grassroots natural gas reservoir storage project and the industry's first large diameter natural gas pipeline into Manhattan, New York City in over 60 years. In that capacity, I worked at the project locations where I managed onsite project construction.

University of Texas at Austin

I earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a full-time MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
